Last Glow of Day

The same creek as the previous post. A little up stream, a different day, different weather and a different mood.

Bad Hair Day

The dead tree reminded me of that affliction.

You know it’s bad when a hawk decides to rest there for a while.

Even in shadow the warped structure of the ranges, formed in creation, can still be seen.

After Sundown

The fading evening light works a little magic, softening the features of this rugged landscape.

The western side of the Flinders Ranges near Parachilna on part of Motpena Station.

Long Lenses Too

Interesting effects can be achieved using long lenses. At their longest focal lengths they tend to compress scenes and object like these mountains at the western end of the Parachilna Gorge in the Flinders Ranges.

It’s a way of illustrating the complexity and depth of the hills and mountains which start abruptly at the edge of vast plains on both the east and western sides of the Ranges.

Again a focal length of 300 mm, f22 at 1/100th sec. ISO 200, hand held.

Long Lens

If you can afford one, a long lens, out to about 300mm is handy to have.

It came in useful as first light hit the tops of the ABC Range not far from the central Flinders town of Blinman for the this photograph.

While the big picture was OK, cutting down the real estate provided a much more moody or peaceful image.

Winter Colours

This time of year brings out a different range of colours in contrast to the bolder ones of summer and autumn.

Often its pastels and muted shades and shadows.
