A Schooner Please…..

Metal Monster

It vanished as quickly as it appeared. A strange contraption that I can only guess checks the accuracy of rail lines that have been laid or repaired.

Part of the reconstruction of the rail line which is used to transport coal from the Leigh Creek mines to the Port Augusta powerhouse.

Anyone who has visited the plains on the western side of the Flinders ranges on a cloudless evening will appreciate the stunning afterglow that occurs on the horizon about 30 minutes after sunset.

Shot at f5.6, ISO 400, shutter speed 3 seconds.

How Long is a Piece of String?

How many birds in this flock of little Corellas? A hell of a lot should cover it.

So many that the single focus point that I use most of the time on my camera had no trouble locking onto a sharp focus.

Large flocks of Corellas are not unusual. This one was bigger than most though. Maybe it’s the arrival of Spring that draws them together.

Weather Worn

Ancient rock formations of the northern Flinders Range weathered by time, flowing water and extreme ranges in temperature.

Sculptured art forms millions ofd years in the making.

‘Channel Country’

The strange patterns are waterways ….where on the odd occasion it rains around Lake Eyre, water is channelled onto the salt lake.

Lovely patterns too where algae stained salt water meets the salt of the lake’s ever-changing coast line.

Another two images from high above this amazing lake which are part of my Lake Eyre exhibition now on at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna until September 8.

Abstracts in Reality

A meeting of rich textures…desert dunes running into a dry salt channel but salt water stained pink with algae.

Again abstract shapes but in reality the desert sand dunes meeting the salt of the Lake Eyre coastline.

Lake Eyre Exhibition

It might be an appropriate time to air the photographs that make up my Lake Eyre Exhibition that’s currently on display at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna as part of the SALA festival in South Australia and the up-coming annual “Brush With Art” program in the Flinders Ranges.

Over the next couple of weeks I will show the whole 16 photos of the exhibition interspersed with the regular range of image that appear here.

There is quite a variety of landscapes in the exhibition where each image is printed and framed to about a metre in size.

Two of the images have already been posted. They can be seen here and here.
